Day 5 - September 14, 2001 Picked up the hire car (some brand new jeep thing - had 50 miles on it) and I drove it back to the hotel. All went well (probably because I had Adam to follow). Packed the car and headed for Las Vegas - got slightly lost but we're on the right road now. Currently stopped in a service station on the side of the I-15N in a place called Barstow. In Australia a highway service centre consists of a Fast food outlet and a Fuel station. This one has 3 fuel stations, about 10 fast food restaurants, and 3 massive shopping malls. It's almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit so it's very warm right now. We are just finding out that you have to pay for fuel BEFORE you fill the car... 11pm - We have now arrived and I am sitting in our room on Level 28 of the Mandalay Bay hotel looking out over Las Vegas. Unfortunately a lot of the lights are turned off tonight in respect to the atrocities in the East Coast - hopefully it will be back to normal tomorrow. American Flags are flying everywhere from buildings and cars and people are even carrying them on the street and everyone cheers when they see them. Such a patriotic bunch... |
