Day 12 Drove up to Long Beach this morning and was totally unimpressed. Apart from the fact that the “Marine Layer” reduced visibility quite substantially, I felt rather unsafe walking the streets, and it was only 9:30am! Continued north, driving through the seedy docklands of Terminal Island to San Pedro. A quick stop here at a lookout confirms that the so called “Marine Layer” in undoubtedly pollution, and not the harmless fog that the seemingly deluded LA residents keep telling themselves and everyone else that it is. Further north I came to the Palos Verdes Hills – the place you live in LA if you’re rich, but not famous. The shops at a Mall I stopped at showed this to be very true! The houses here are excellent and it’s got to be the place to live in LA. The views from the hills would have been fantastic too, if visibility was more than 500m (Marine Layer!). I had to give the car back to Adam this afternoon as he had some work errands to run. When he had finished we went back down to the Irvine Spectrum Centre to see the movie Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. A very funny movie as expected, however it requires a rather unique sense of humour and you must see all the previous Jay and Silent Bob movies first (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma – and in that order!) otherwise it’s a waste of time. I have discovered Three Cheese Pretzels sold by Wetzels Pretzels stores and am becoming addicted. |
